Education for children in Monarch Beach is provided by the Capistrano School District. Efforts are currently underway to renovate all the schools. Dana Point High School is a leading high school, whose states rankings are exceptional - in the 90th percentiles within the state of California. For adult education, the Capistrano Adult School offers over 170 classes at 20 sites and consists of students from the ages of 18 to 90. Residents are also within commuting distance to other Orange County institutions including University of California Irvine, Chapman University, Saddleback College, and Orange Coast College.

Whales and dolphins can often be seen cavorting off shore, and the City of Dana Point holds an Annual Whale Festival which draws about 100,000 people.
